Senior Litigation Assistant - Aboriginal Law

Our client is a downtown law firm looking for a senior litigation legal assistant to join their team.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Preparing documents including: drafting, formatting, editing, correspondence, memos, agreements, reports, pleadings, and court documents, attending to all procedures surrounding the filing and serving of court pleadings and documents, attending to all procedures and processes regarding case planning, hearings, submissions, and trials.
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 12 graduation supplemented with 5+ years litigation experience. Preference may be given to candidates with the completion of a Legal Assistant program from an accredited educational institution in Canada.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
High-level: MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe
Working knowledge: Court Services Online (CSO), LTSA, Corporate Online
Principles and practices of document and records management in order to maintain and organize electronic and paper filing systems, including maintaining confidentiality
Legal practices, terminology, and procedures for various levels of court
Organizing and maintaining lawyers’ calendars and Bring Forward (BF) system
Strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness
Keen attention to detail
Communicates professionally, effectively, and respectfully with lawyers and opposing counsel, co-workers, and external resources, both verbally and in writing
Works well autonomously and within a team
Remains flexible and willing to adapt to quick changing priorities and frequent interruptions
Able to multi-task and prioritize work
Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Willingness to learn new technological applications
Previous experience in a Management capacity is an asset
